I feel it is necessary to say a word and make some distinctions about the work and practice of other great people who predate Joel's work with EQ and as such have an established magickal school of thought regarding practice. The ALW cipher was first discovered in the early seventies by a group of magicians in the United Kingdom, notably by Jim Lees. Their work is distinct from our own, but it is from them that certain planetary formula were transmitted to us, and our branch grows from their root. But it is noteworthy that the addition of Cipher X is something unique to myself and the N*O*T*, and is the discovery of Joel Love solely. The beauty of what we do is that, even it its religious aspects, it is still an artform, subject to interpretation. Joel would have never desired and orthodoxy arise around his name or even a fixed system which would be regarded as dogmatic. The symmetry of CipherX/ALW is something I've coined as 'English Qaballah' is simple. 'Qaballah'=50='Joel'. This is a deceptively simple way to denote his system. A serious proponent of the original branch of EQ is Cath Thompson, An original colleague of Jim Lees, Thompson is author of four books on the subject which illustrate the astrological formula which form the deep structure of this system while giving her own personal account of working with it intimately for years. Another valuable resource is Jake Stratton-Kent, whose knowledge of classical grimoires could possibly be unsurpassed in modern times. Stratton-Kent also worked extensively with Jim Lees as friend and colleague, and was a seminal force in bringing English Qaballa to the world. His hysterical wit combined with his deep historical knowledge has served to set many folks straight regarding an array of misconceptions about ceremonial magick and the occult in general. https://scarletimprint.com/jake-strattonkent

See also Jake's book "The Serpent Tongue" which deals with the application of EQ to certain principles of goetic working.
